switches. there are many variety's to choose from.
Thats it! your ready to start!
step 1 - power ok, you will need to find some power wires, i used the cigarett lighter cause it was the most convinient
first you need to unplug your wires from the bottom of the cigarett lighter, and cut off the plugs at the end
dont worry because they will be replaced by "plug connectors" [the blue plugs you see]
these will fit right over the post you just pulled the stock plug off of.
after you have cut the plugs off, i recomend you extend these lead wires, makes things a ton easier
[this step is outlined in red]. Notice the Grey twist on caps used.
now you need to cut a pair of wires for each switch you want to use [neg. and pos. for each switch] outlined in blue below.
then twist all the matching wires together [positive's and negative's], including the extended wires from the cigarett lighter,
and crimp them into the plug connectors[see green circle].
step 2 - fuse + switch post 1 ok, now you have 2 wires [pos. and neg.] coming to each switch.
for the positive side, attatch an inline fuse, you can solder or use a twist on connector[red circle] and then crimp on a flag or plug connector*
-this depends on where you mount the switch...
-i had problems with regular plug connectors rubbing on the airbag computer and shorting out, so i replaced them with flag-connectors.
strip about a 1/4-1/2" off the negative wire, then place aside.
step 3 - neons + switch post 2 Now, if havent already done so, mount your neons, cut off the cigarett lighter adapter [if there is one],
route the wires to your switch[es], and strip the ends.
If its not aparent which wire is pos and wich is negative, you will have to do some trial and error testing.
-turn the switch to on position, twist one wire to the negative coming from the ciagarett lighter,
-and touch the other to the 2nd post of the switch. then turn the key in your ignition to "on" [first click]
-DO NOT TOUCH BOTH WIRES AT ONCE OR TOUCH THEM TOGETHER WHEN YOU APPLY POWER BY TURNING THE CAR ON
-if the neon doesnt light, then switch the wires and it should work now
-[if it doesnt then a) you did something wrong, or b) the neons dead]
-once you have figured out the positive and negative of each device you have, you can continue.
you need to gather all the negative wires together [including the negative from the ciagarett lighter] and twist them all together [yellow lines]
then use a twist on cap on the whole bundle [yellow circle]
finally, you twist all the positives together [from your neons, etc] and crimp them into either a flag or plug connector. [see green lines and circle]
Now, BEFORE PUTTING EVERYTHING BACK, make sure all connections are made and plugs are plugged in, then turn the car on and test it out!
In this picture I am holding the wire that comes from the cigarett lighter.
above my finger is the inline fuse, connected to one post on the switch.
the tape on the other switch is to prevent the plug-connectors from shorting out on the airbag computer.
this was fixed with the use of flag-connectors.
heres some more pics of the finished product
In this pic, the wires coming from between my middle and ring fingers are from the neons under my dash,
notice the positive leads go to the switch and negative leads go to the twist-cap
the wire between my ring finger and pinky, is from the cigarett lighter, the negative [black] going to the cap, pos. going to the Fuse
In this pic, im holding 4 wires, coming from my [2] washer led's [in door vents], center vent neon, and rear floor neon.
All of the positive leads are connected to the blue flag-connector, and negatives to the blue twist cap at top of pic.
Just a shot of the finished wiring, with the flag-connectors replacing the standard plug-connectors.
I left one of the plug-connectors because there was no exposed wiring and it was a really good crimp.
another angle, lots of wires!!
just a shot of what it looks like put away, and my simple switches.... i think im gonna get some metal ones tho, to be schnazy.
